We’re all set for the Magic: The Gathering Dark Ascension prerelease this weekend! Old or new players, read up on this stuff so you know the time and format, because some things have changed from previous events:
- Dates: Saturday, January 28th and Sunday, January 29th
- Time: 10am signups and deckbuilding, tournament play starts at 11am. A second event will begin deckbuilding both days at 2pm.
- Format: Sealed (Three packs of Innistrad and three packs of Dark Ascension to build a 40-card deck out of, basic land will be provided)
- Prizes: Every participant will receive a foil, alternate-art Ravenous Demon / Archdemon of Greed. Prizes will be awarded to the top eight finishers, possibly more depending on turnout.

That said, we’re still a bit behind on inventory, so we’re currently offering an extra 20% trade-in credit on Nintendo DS and Sony PSP games! Bring them in quick! We can’t do this one forever.

in Dungeons & Dragons, Magic: The Gathering, Video Games
As usual, I’m way overdue making a post here, but I’ll make this one count. Promise!
Magic: The Gathering – Innistrad comes out Friday, September 30th (Happy Birthday, Mom!), so that means this coming weekend is Pre-release weekend! We’re going nuts with the tournaments this time around. Saturday and Sunday will have two tournaments each: Sealed at Noon, and draft at 3pm! That means if you do the sealed and don’t like how things are going for you, you can drop and compete in the draft for more prizes! Craziness!
Dungeons & Dragons – Encounters & Lair Assault is going strong. If you’re new to D&D, or want to try it out, come down Wednesdays at 5pm for D&D Encounters: an ongoing storyline that’s perfect for beginners to try out D&D in, or a nice relaxed weekly adventure for the experienced dungeoneer.
For the truly experienced adventurer, Lair Assault will put your abilities to the test. Bring your pre-made level five character and try to run the whole dungeon in under 20 rounds. The last time we did this, all six party members perished before entering the final room. It’s not easy! Check our schedule of events or our Facebook page for updates on the next Lair Assault session.
Video games – Trade-ins are constantly coming in, and our inventory is changing day to day. Our Wii games have absolutely exploded lately, almost tripling in size in just a week! If you haven’t been in for a while, stop by quick and see if there’s something you’ve been looking for. Also, be sure to check our Most Wanted list to the right side here. Any of those games would net you an instant $30 store credit if you bring them in. That’s like you got the game for half price when you first bought it!
For systems, we currently have in stock:
- XBox 360 slim with 4gb HD – $170
- XBox 360 with 60gb HD – $190
- Nintendo Wii, black with Wii Motion plus – $110
- PlayStation 2 slim – $40
- Original XBox – $40
- Nintendo GameCube – $35
- Nintendo 64 – $40
- Sega Genesis – $30
- Sega Genesis 3 – $34
- GameBoy Advance – $25
- GameBoy Advance SP (rechargeable) – $40
- Nintendo DS (not lite) – $70
Board Games – Check out our Event Schedule, now located up top, for more board and card game demos! We’re upping our selection of games in store, and almost all games are available for special order as well. Ticket To Ride, Shadows Over Camelot, RoboRally, Pandemic, Settlers of Catan and Risk are currently residing on our board game wall.

Magic: The Gathering players – if you don’t know about Commander, you need to check it out here. Our Commander League Play is going strong with a solid 19 players. If you’re looking for some crazy multiplayer action in Magic, come on down and check it out. There are people playing it here every day lately.
Tomorrow has double duty for game demos. Come down to Lower Lake early for the classic car show on Main Street, then take the corner and try out either the board game Descent (long commitment) or the card game Saboteur (short commitment).
Lastly, we’re in the market for a reliable person to do video game system repairs. If you or an acquaintance know their way around current systems or older systems (preferably both) have them give me a call at 994-9909.
Game on!

Starting today and running to the end of July, all PlayStation 2 games are Buy Two, Get One Free! If that’s your diehard system, or you’ve been looking to fill out your collection with some older games, now is the time!
This weekend has two awesome events:
Saturday is our Learn To Paint Miniatures event! Starting at 2pm, come down and learn a few simple techniques that makes painting fantasy and sci-fi miniatures a whole lot easier than it seems. For just $5 you’ll receive a Warhammer 40k Space Marine, a color of paint of your choice to work with, and over a couple hours you’ll leave at the end of the session with your figure complete and a good base of knowledge to continue with. Stick around afterwards for a demo of the tabletop wargame Warhammer 40k and/or Warhammer Fantasy!
Sunday is a free Halo 3 Tournament! Matches will start around 2pm, and prizes will be awarded to the top slots in the form of store credit. Not doing anything that day? Why not try and earn some free credit?
Trade-in deal!

Nobody else will offer you such a deal, no matter how big they claim to be. We want your games, and we’re here for you, so we’re more than happy to make this offer.
For you Magic players, don’t forget that this weekend is the Magic 2012 Pre-release! Saturday, July 9 is Sealed ($25) and Sunday, July 10 is Draft ($12).
Also, if you pay for it by this weekend, you can get a whole booster box of M12 for $100! If you’re planning on getting it, save yourself the $40+ you’d spend by waiting or going elsewhere.
What’s new?

What’s new at your friendly neighborhood all-things-gaming store?
Video games – Tons and tons of trade-ins keep pouring through the door, but it seems like everyone is using their newfound store credit for XBox 360 games. As a result, our 360 stock is a bit low. So, through the end of July, we’ll be offering an extra 10% on your trade-in credit of XBox 360 games, and $40 for any 360 games on our Most Wanted list (on the right). Get the most for your 360 stuff while you can!
Magic: The Gathering – Commander – EDH for you previous players, Commander is the newly supported multiplayer format for Magic. In short, you have a 100 card deck with no more than ONE of any card (other than basic land), and you build around a legendary creature dubbed your Commander, and his color identity is what you pick from when building the deck. There are plenty of players in store already if your curious, and I have a number of decks you can take for a trial run, so if you’re curious, pop in and chat us up about it. Pre-built starters are $29.99.
Legend of the Five Rings – War of Honor – The L5R multiplayer format sets up an incredibly unique way of playing, combining the card game with a free-form board game, and replacing the standard victory conditions with a new chart based on the same ideas. Included in the box are four very well built decks, each looking at a different path to victory. If you want to expand your L5R experience, or want to try out a new, highly strategic card game, War of Honor fits the bill.
June craziness!

First off, thanks everyone for your continued support! May has been fantastic; our best month to date!
Wii and GameCube games have finally found their own home on our new shelf space! There’s a surprisingly large selection, so come check it out if you’re a Nintendo fan.
June has all sorts of craziness happening, starting this weekend with a video game tournament on Sunday, June 5th. With an overwhelming majority picking the game, everyone will be competing at Super Smash Bros. Melee for the GameCube! Play will start at 2pm, so come down early to get some practice in if you’re rusty. Once again, prizes will be awarded through 4th place, all in the form of store credit, and it will cost you a grand total of zero dollars to play! What’s that? Free to play and I can win credit? Sure! (That last bit should be what you’re saying now.)
June is big for Magic: The Gathering as well. Commander launches mid-month, and we’ll be hosting a launch party for it on Sunday, June 19th at 1pm. It will be a non-sanctioned, casual multiplayer tournament. Bring your best EDH/Commander decks down, or pick up one of the new pre-mades for Commander and give it a whirl. Never played EDH/Commander before? Sneak in on Saturday, June 18th to get the hang of it with some of the decks we have on hand.
New Phyrexia Game Day is both Saturday and Sunday, June 11th and 12th! The format will be standard, and each player entering will receive a full sized, alternate art Priest of Urabrask. The top eight players on each day will win full sized, alternate art, foil Myr Superions in addition to our regular allotment of packs. Each day’s tournament will start at 1pm and have a cost of $5.
Lastly for Magic, we’re now in the realm of double Friday Night Magic tournaments! What does that mean? Well, as long as we have a minimum of 16 people show up, players will be split into two different tournaments based on their official DCI ranking, and four FNM foils will be handed out in each separate tournament, along with the usual packs for our $5 tourneys. What exactly does this mean? Well, if you haven’t been coming because your new to Magic and it’s no fun losing to people who have been playing for over a decade, now you have a much better shot at those unique FNM foils. As usual, Friday Night Magic is every Friday at 5pm, with matches beginning at 5:30 pm.
If you’ve been waiting for our Learn to Paint Miniatures event to show up, I promise I’m still planning on hosting it. I’m having issues getting a good supply of paints in without bankrupting us. Keep your eyes peeled here or on our Facebook page. As soon as I get my paints in, I’ll pick a date a week or two ahead for the event. If you hadn’t heard about it, our Learn to Paint event will most likely cost $5 and take a couple hours, but at the end you’ll have a good feel for basic miniature painting techniques, and you’ll leave with a completely painted Warhammer 40k Space Marine!
